A. Recount Text is a text that serves to retell events or experiences that occurred in the past.

B. Language Features (Language Features) Recount Text

In making Recount Text, you need to pay attention to some existing linguistic rules or language features, one of which is using the Simple Past Tense.

--- Using Simple Past Tense

Why must Simple Past Tense? Because the events being told are events that happened in the past, so we have to use a tense that serves to express events that happened in the past, namely the Simple Past Tense.

--- There are two kinds of simple past tense sentence patterns, namely:

1. Subject + Verb 2

Example: Iran.

2. Subject + be + complement

Example: It was hard.

--- Using Adverb of Time and Adverb of Sequence

In addition, in making Recount Text, you can also use various adverbs or adverbs, such as adverbs of time and adverbs of sequence.

--- Adverb of Time is used to show the past. Examples include:

~ yesterday

~ Last week

~ Last month

~ An hour ago

~ A year ago

While the Adverb of Sequence is used to show the order in which events occur. Examples include:

∆ First

∆ Then

∆ After that

∆ At last

∆ Finally

Before writing an example of recount text, we will have a recount text reading.

Ami : Riza, look! That heroic monument stands high and strong.

Riza : Hmm…. It is a remembrance for us to our heroes’ struggle on this country.

Ami : Yeah, many of them became casualties of the war.

Riza : I had an unforgettable experience there.

Ami : Really? What was it?

Riza : When I was in Junior High School, my school held a program called “Keep our city clean and green!”

Ami : What did you do?

Riza : My schoolmates, my teachers, and I rallied in the monument area at 6 a.m. and began to clean the area around the monument until it’s clean and tidy.

Ami : That’s a very good program.

Riza : Yes, it was. We also planted some trees around it.

I spent my last summer holiday in Seoul, South Korea. I went there with my friends. 

Events

On the first day, I was landed at Incheon Airport around 7 AM after a 6 hours long flight. Then I went to Seoul by train and checked in to the hotel I already booked. I decided to take a rest for a while. At night, I went to Hongdae, a famous district in South Korea. I went to eat traditional Korean food. On the next day, I went to the Gyeongbokgung Palace and National Museum. I also went to learn how to make Kimchi and see the scenery of Seoul from Seoul Tower. I went back to the hotel at 10 PM and immediately went to sleep.

Reorientation

I spent my last day in Myeongdong and bought some stuffs and souvenirs for my family and friends. I also ate the street food there. I went to the airport at 3 PM because my flight was at 5 PM. I had a fantastic experience in South Korea and made wonderful memory with my friends. It was a great trip.
